People don't really mind the grout between tiles, I have noticed. The articles I have written before have stated every danger and hazard that can be found in the grout, but really, the space is just small. Many people just decide to procrastinate and leave cleaning to a day or so after. Or until the grout becomes so dirty a total grout replacement is in order.
How is the process of regrouting done? What materials, equipment, and tools are needed? I will assume that you are the handyman type and are planning to do it yourself, so this article will answer these questions.
First, before you actually remove and replace the dirty grout, make sure that you actually do need to replace them. A bit of discoloration on the tiles may be present, but it doesn't mean they do need a total regrouting. A little searching online will yield a few tips to clean dirty grout; there are a number of these, and if memory serves, I posted an article about this myself.
Black, in general, is not a good color for grout. Check if the bathroom grout is black. If it is, it's hopelessly infested with black mold. Black algae in pools are very hard to remove, and replacing them can now be taken into serious consideration.
A tool called a grout saw is used to remove the grout. This'll work for most of the kitchen jobs, but pools and like, a power tool with a diamond blade should be used for cutting through. Then slowly chisel off what's left of the grout using a grout scraper. Get a vinegar and water solution, use it to clean the area, and then vacuum what remains of the grout pieces.
Now it's time to apply the new grout. Simply follow the instructions which are included in the grout, and you'd do just fine. Also, mop up the loosened grout that's scattered all over the tiles with a damp rag. You have now regrouted your tiles. - 16492
