The last installment of the trilogy, AT WORLD'S END, takes you to the place where Jack Sparrow has been captured. Captain Barbossa has reemerged to lead the dejected friends of Sparrow on a rescue mission to the end of the world. The zenith of myth and legend come together in outstanding fashion. This film ties up all the loose ends of family, betrayal, and lost love in the usual, breathtaking way.

The conception of the film is based on the popular theme-park ride at Disney World and though the characters are indeed fictional, some of them are based on actual people and places. The Isla De Muerto or Island of Death is an actual island off the coast of Ecuador. Around 1680, the Santa Cruz sunk just off the coast taking with it impressive sums of Spanish silver. The pirate Bartholomew Sharpe ran the ship onto the reef off Santa Clara Island, which was later nicknamed Isla De Muerto. Complete Overview Of American Flyer Model Train Series

The American Flyer is probably the most popular of all model train series. They did reach their peaks around the 40's and another peak in the 60's, they had been around for much longer then that. Their popularity is also skyrocketing today as well and they are I feel going to be around another 100 years!

A toy maker in Chicago called William Hafner, in the very early 20th century developed a model train developed on a clockwork motor, primarily for the use in toy cars. By about 1905 how ever he decided to put them into use in model trains as well. Good thing he did, the model cars sold no where near as well as the trains.

William Hafner and his good friend by the same name, William Coleman approached a small manufacturer of hardware, Edmonds-Metzel. They used this company to start producing clockwork toy trains in 1907.

They were first marketed under the name of Edmond Metzel trains, but because they were selling so fast and so well they needed a new name and they came up with the name of the American Flyer. This came about in 1910. Even the name of the hardware company they were using had also changed its name to incorporate the American Flyer name in it.

They started selling like hot cakes for a few reasons. They were quite cheaper then other popular makes of model trains at the time and because they were also quite a bit more realistic then more budget style model trains of the time.

Mr William Hafner left the partnership around 1913. He used the funds he had already made and started his own company. Colemans American Flyer Trains. It did well for quite a period of time around the first world war. There was little to no competition at the time due to the war efforts.

In 1938 right before the break out of the second world war, the founders son with the same name, who was in charge of the business after his father died in 1918 sold the American Flyer to a company called A C Gilbert Company. Gilbert already had experience in manufacturing toys, but had never done so with trains.

At the same time he also moved the company from Chicago were it was created to New Haven in Connecticut where he lived. He also began to drastically re design the American Flyer and turned it into an S-scale model train in 1939. This scale is a modification of the popular O scale or model which was then the leader on the market.

The S-scale was much smaller then the O-scale and this made it more popular with enthusiasts as it required less room to setup a decent track. The scale is 1:64, considerably smaller then the O-scale yet still very detailed and precise.

He also made another change in 1946 that improved the realisticness of the American flyer more so. Model trains, electric model trains at that time had been run on 3 rail tracks. Not realistic. He changed it so they ran on 2 rail tracks, much like their bigger counterparts. These tracks had 7/8th inches between each rail. This made the trains run better as well.

How ever, television was starting to take hold at this time as well. This distracted many from their hobbies they would usually spend their spare time on. Also at this time, discount chain stores came into play, discounting train sets that companies like A C Gilbert could not compete with. in 1962, Gilbert sold the American Flyer to Wrather Group. This company produced toys as well, but usually on a mass scale and tended to produce poor quality as well. Sales of course fell through the floor and in 1967 the company went bankrupt.

A major toy train maker and the market leader at time, Lionel Corp purchased the American Flyer. This company itself was having difficulty with finances as well and they also went bankrupt in 1969, so they sold off the rights to the American Flyer to another manufacturer, General Mills.

This company, General Mills, started selling some of the designs of the original designed Gilbert American Flyer, it how ever sold off everything it purchased from then Lionel Corp to Kenner, who then in turn sold the company to a man named Richard Kughn. This happened in 1985.

Mr Richard Kughn had great success with the company and design for 11 years, but he sold out in 1996 to a company called Wellspring Partners, who then took on the original name of Lionel and called themselves Lionel LLC, which still operates today.

The sell the S-scale American Flyer still. They were at first focusing on selling other scale models, but in 2002 they started selling more and more of the American Flyer.

The American Flyer toda is more then 100 years old and has gone through many different hands. It's popularity is still going strong and while it fluctuates, this model train and scale is going no where fast. - 16492

Just a Breathe of Filtered Fresh Air!

Did you know that up to 80 per cent of the dust in the air you're breathing right now (assuming you are sitting inside) is made up of dead skin? Human flesh is the most common form of dust in the air, and makes up the bulk of what's known as "indoor air pollution". So far, over 350 different types of indoor air pollution have been identified. Some common ones include pet dander, viruses, molds, pollen, cleaning chemicals, and solvents from furniture, construction, and clothes.

Experts say that when children are exposed to large quantities of this dust at an early age there is a spike in the instances of asthma and allergies. In fact, indoor air quality has become a hot topic over the past couple years with the discovery of "sick building syndrome". This is a term used to describe the effects that molds, viruses, and gases have on people who spend all their time in offices or otherwise indoors, and is responsible for all kinds of maladies.

Ultimately, the only real cure for sick building syndrome is a good dose of clean, fresh air. Barring that, there are many different Ionic air filtration and air purification devices on the market these days, each meant to eliminate the threat that indoor air pollution poses.

But just what is the difference between an air filter and an air purifier? The basic home or office air filter is simply a panel that fits over the intake of the buildings furnace or air vents. Simple ones are made from fibreglass or polyester, and allow for the passage of air but trap large particles of dust. These filters are often placed in front of fans because the large particles of dust can accumulate over time and eventually clog up the machinery. These basic filters serve no real protection, but they do protect the machinery from burning out.

Some types of filter can be washed and reused, but the majority of them are meant to be thrown away after they become too dirty to use anymore. Then they are simply replaced with a new one.

The problem with these basic filters is, of course, that they are meant to mainly protect the furnace or air conditioner that they are used on. They may collect dust and smoke, and pollen (also good if you want to live an allergy-free lifestyle), but they do nothing against harmful moulds and bacteria. They are equally useless against airborne viruses.

Giving Dust a Jolt of electricity is another form of air filtration system is the needle ionizer and the plate ionizer, also known as Electrostatic Precipitators. These devices use electricity to filter out all of the smoke and dust out of the air. Plate ionizers use electricity to give the incoming air a static charge. The air then is passed through a series of metal "plates" that contain the opposite charge of the air surrounding it. This causes all of those charged particles to be attracted to the plates, and in this way the air is effectively purified. This can be a very effective way to clean the air. Many plate ionizers are small and quiet enough that they can be installed in several rooms of your house. They are also good for furnaces and cooling systems as the do not impede the flow of air the way traditional filters do.

Needle ionizers use high voltage electricity to create negative electrons. These electrons run up the length of a pointed spike, or needle, where they stream into the air and attract oxygen molecules. At this point, they become negative ions. Negative ions occur naturally in the air we breathe, and they are quite harmless. These negative ions attach themselves to airborne particles. When enough negative ions attach to a particle, it gets too heavy to float in the air and drops to the ground (a process known as agglomeration), effectively getting it out of regular air circulation.

Both plate and needle ionizers use high voltage to clean the air, which causes an inherent shock danger for anyone who needs to work on it. Also, in the case of plate ionizers, the collecting plates can be a breeding ground for moulds and bacteria, and should be cleaned fairly regularly.

Needle ionizers also have the additional problem of their negative ion field. They cause the surrounding air to carry a negative charge while the walls and furniture around it still carry a positive charge. Essentially, it uses any surrounding surface as a plate ionizer, causing particles to stick to any surface. This effect is known as "black wall", and it can be frustrating to keep the area around the Ionic air purifier clean. In both cases, electrostatic precipitators do nothing for odours and merely serve to collect airborne viruses and bacteria instead of killing them.

The corona discharge purifier is another way to purify the air. These air purifiers use electrically created ozone to purify the surrounding environment. One way that ozone is created is when electricity is used to bond oxygen molecules together. In its natural state, oxygen atoms will pair up to form molecules (O2).

Ozone is created in nature by lightning. You may have been near a lightning strike at some point in your life and smelled the fresh, clean smell that lightning leaves behind. That smell is actually ozone that was created by the static discharge. Ozone carries a highly unstable bond and reacts with nearly everything it encounters. In the case of ozonating air purifiers, most of that interaction takes place with indoor air pollution. Ozone molecules float in the air until they come in contact with a foreign particle. At that point, the extra oxygen atom splits off and attaches itself to the particle.

The introduction of this new oxygen atom causes a tiny cellular explosion, transforming the foreign particle into hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The remaining oxygen molecules are left as pure oxygen (O2).

There are literally thousands of different pollutants that ozone will react with to duplicate this process. It is one of the only purification systems that actually dissolves odours (as opposed to simply masking them) and can render microbial bacteria, moulds, and viruses sterile. Once sterilized, the colony is greatly reduced within a matter of hours.

Ozone has even been proven as an effective food preservative! A corona discharge air purifier uses electrical blasts of 5,000 to 10,000 volts in order to create ozone. The ozone then cleans the air and makes everything smell fresh and clean. The drawbacks to a coronal discharge purifier are that they are expensive to run and they can cause black wall. It takes a lot of electricity to create your own little thunderstorm!

Additionally, the amount of ozone they create fluctuates depending on the amount of oxygen in the air, and several harmful compounds can also be created when ozone is produced. Substances such as nitric oxides have been shown to irritate the respiratory system, and that's not what someone hoping to live allergy-free wants at all. Another air purifier that creates ozone is the ultraviolet air purifier. These devices use shortwave ultraviolet light to bombard oxygen molecules in the air. These molecules, once exposed to the UV rays, quickly reform themselves into ozone molecules.

UV light is an effective method for air purification because the ozone obliterates most of the contaminants in the air. Also, harmful microbes, spores, and bacteria that are exposed to UV light become unstable and mutated. These mutated creatures are unable to reproduce, making them short lived.

Again, there are drawbacks to this type of air purifier. Many of the dangers associated with coronal discharge air purifiers are also related to UV air purifiers. They can create fluctuating amounts of ozone, and the bigger lamps used in large rooms can create far too much ozone.

One of the most widely used filters on the market for the home or office filtration system is the HEPA filter. Used for decades by the military and medical professions, HEPA filters have become synonymous with clean air. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. HEPA filters were originally developed by the military during The Manhattan Project (the US military program during World War II that developed the atomic bomb). HEPA filters are basically made up of a special paper-like glass fibre sheet pleated in a "V" pattern with corrugated aluminium separators between the pleats. This is bonded onto a sturdy base, forming the core of the filter. HEPA filters can filter out 99.7 per cent of all particulates in the air. They effectively capture all large particles and many of the small ones. In fact, a HEPA filter is designed to capture particles in the air no smaller than 0.3 microns in diameter.

However, it is important to note that a HEPA filter is just that-a filter. It is not a purifier. Although it may capture some spores, moulds, and viruses, it will not neutralize them. HEPA filters also cannot be re-used. They must be replaced, and that can be an expensive prospect. HEPA filters also rely on motorized fans, and that can make them noisy. Since they need to make air flow through them to filter it, they are fairly ineffective in large spaces. The filters themselves are also brittle, and can easily be damaged during installation. Despite its drawbacks, the HEPA filter is the best air filter on the market and easily out-performs its competitors.

The Air Filter and Purification markets are expected to skyrocket in the coming years with the sharp increase in terrorist attacks around the world. Some analysts predict that the "clean air" market could be worth $6.2 Billion by 2006. Good news indeed for the makers of these products. It is also good news for the consumer, as constant competition can only serve to improve these products.

Ben Sherman clothing line was born in 1963, but an independent young man. Originally born Alfred Benjamin Sugarman, the young man changed his name and started a new life and a new clothing line; hence Ben Sherman was truly born. The first location of the Ben Sherman line was in Brighton England, but eventually moved to Northern Ireland due to the increase of sales and the craze started by the Ben Sherman button-down shirt. This Ben Sherman shirt started the legacy which has continued strong since its inception, and is looking forward to evolving with the future.

The young men of England wanted to have a look far from their parents, and thus created the Mod fad of the 1960's. The Ben Sherman shirt was picked up by this trend setting group, but the Ben Sherman shirt was also associated with other subcultures including skinheads, and of course the music business. The suits with Ben Sherman shirts and torn jeans and boots with the Ben Sherman shirt started the association of Ben Sherman with rebellious youth, but it was the Beatles, the Who and the Rolling Stones that helped Ben Sherman break into the music business.

The 1970's proved to be another time of expansion for Ben Sherman clothing. The lines were not just shirts, but included all parts of causal men's wear and were one of the largest casual men's wear manufacturers of the day. The Ben Sherman clothing and its association with rebellion was not lost in this decade as the British Punk scene grabbed at the Ben Sherman clothing instilling the iconic look in music for good. With the expansion to boy's and men's casual wear, the journey was far from over for the Ben Sherman line.

Then comes the 1980's and the differences in music still exist as does Ben Sherman on the side of the rebels. The Ska brand of music picked up where the punk scene left off and finished the branding of Ben Sherman clothes with the working man. The Ben Sherman clothing kept its roots in the Mod fashion but took it a step further to incorporate it into the style of the 80's rebellious generation.

Indie bands of the 1990's were constantly clad in Ben Sherman clothes. Bands like Oasis that made a name for themselves helped the Ben Sherman clothing line to stay entrenched in music and the rebel movement of the youth. The fashion stayed in touch with the working man and the young and Ben Sherman was the preferred clothes for many youth of the day.

Even today, Ben Sherman is evolving, and now includes women's clothing as well as fragrances, underwear, sun glasses, and other such items. However, they have never lost their roots and their association with music. The Ben Sherman rebel image lives on and will grow as they expand into more lines and more Ben Sherman clothing. Cheap travel means you get to go more often, go on longer trips or just save some of your money for other things. Fortunately, it doesn't mean low-quality travel. If you find a way to get a cheaper plane ticket, for example, you might be flying on the same plane as with the more expensive tickets.

Of course sometimes you can save money by traveling differently, and that's okay too. Why pay an extra $40 for a hotel if you like the idea of staying in a hostel with visitors from around the world? Why rent a car in countries where good bus and train systems make for cheaper and more interesting trips?

Essentially you can travel cheap in two ways. First, you can find cheaper ways to get the same thing. The other, perhaps more powerful way, is to alter your expectations and plans to create a more interesting trip that is also inexpensive. The tips that follow will help you do both.

1. See if you can book two flights cheaper than one

My wife and I are thinking about going to Ecuador this year (2007). Checking for our approximate dates, I found that it would cost $950 each round trip from Colorado Springs, or $1,900 total. Then I checked from Colorado Springs to Miami. It would be $215 round trip. From Miami to Guayaquil, Ecuador costs $350 round trip. That makes it just $565 to Ecuador, or $1,130 total - a savings of $770.

Of course, if you are going to do this, you have to find flights that have enough time in-between them. You probably won't get e refund if you miss the second flight because of a delay on the first. In our case, we have friends near Miami, so we'll just arrange the flights to be a day or two apart, and go visiting. Even after the cost of renting a car for a couple days we'll still be hundreds of dollars ahead.

2. Live in a new place for a while

One way to make a vacation less rushed, cheaper, and in many ways more interesting, is to stop going from hotel to hotel. Why not stay in a place, and even rent a condo or apartment? We did this a few years back in Tucson, Arizona. It was nice to escape winter for a couple months, and it was fun to explore and get to know a new city. Often you can save hundreds of dollars this way, versus paying by the night for hotel rooms.

3. Be an opportunistic traveler

This is the most valuable of these cheap travel tips. There are so many things to do out there and so many places to see, so why get stuck on just the ones you have already thought of? With a little luck, you might find a more interesting place to go for half the price. With little shopping, you might find a bed and breakfast in whatever country you visit, and pay less for a more interesting experience.

First look for all the possible alternatives that are less expensive. This isn't about doing something you don't want to do. But among those cheaper choices there might be a perfect trip for you. Why not find out? To start with, do any of your friends live in interesting places? Visiting friends is a great way to save on travel costs and have a load of fun (with the right friends).

Here's a good example of being an opportunist. We were in the mountain resort town of Banos, Ecuador, and asked about the cost of taxi ride to some waterfall. It was $15. It was apparently a popular attraction with tourists. We kept that in mind as we wandered around. Then we saw a chiva (an open-sided bus with seating on the roof) go by playing music. We asked about that.

The chiva took us on a tour of the city (I rode on the roof), then up into the mountains for a view of the city from above. Then we watched the volcano Tungurahua erupt and spit out a bit of lava. They served us hot rum drinks (included in the price), and there were fire-juggling entertainers. Passengers had to push the chiva to get it started for the trip back to town.
