Spray Tan Tips and Tales

By Kelly Lau

Tanning booths are now a regular method to ensure people in 'sun poor' countries can have that all over tan every day of the year. The reason for this is that evidence has proved how damaging to your skin it is to sunbathe regularly and the more at risk you are from skin cancer, so people are looking for new ways to achieve the same effect safely. The latest method proving very popular (owing to its speed) is spray tanning as it only requires a single application. There are other agents available to help produce an artificial tan but they do not always work that well unless they are applied by someone with experience.

Manufacturers, quick to join the rush, have produced home spray tanning systems. Whichever method you decide upon there are some simple but basic steps needed to ensure the best effect. Exfoliation is the first step as this rids the body surface of the dead skin cells. This can stop the situation where dead skin cells gradually drop off leaving paler patches of skin which immediately tells people you have a fake tan.

Once that stage has been completed, the body needs to be moisturized all over. Secondly, you always want to wear gloves if you are applying the tanning agent yourself to avoid getting the dreaded orange palms which are a dead give away that your tan is fake.

Another tip, often ignored or forgotten, is to ensure that only a light coat is applied to the backs of the hands, feet and the joints as they show up darker and let everyone know that you have used a lotion or cream. Even spray tanning can cause the odd problem if there is an excess and it starts to run so take a towel you no longer want with you to wipe it off.

Always stay as still as possible after artificial tanning to allow time for the application to settle down and create an even coating. The problem you will have afterwards during this drying time is what to wear because if you wear something expensive that you like, it will probably become stained and won't come off. Another point to consider is the change of clothes you will need once the tan has been applied; take some dark clothes along that way you avoid any staining. To get the most from your artificial tan, follow these guidelines and you won't go far wrong. - 16492
