I was not too keen on Concrete Polishing at first. Growing up, our High School had polished, concrete floors, and they were shiny but ordinary. While it did look clean and maintained, there were cracks here and there, plus the parts where they were patched were clearly visible. It wasn't the best it could be.
It's been about ten years, and once again I found myself contemplating the possibility for concrete polishing. Our home had fake wooden tiles (to which I admit having no love for whatsoever), which were already chipping here and there. I just had to remove it. The near perfect, concrete flooring below surprised me; it was practically untouched.
I then decided to just enhance the concrete somehow. Polishing it would seem ideal, but I really did not know anything about it. So I went to a Concrete Polishing website and asked around.
It didn't take me long to find a contractor in the area who lurked in the forums, and after some discussion, he agreed to check out my house. As it turns out, the quality of the concrete to be polished contributes a great deal to the finish; fortunately, mine only needed minor tweaks. The contractor said that if the concrete turned out to be too wavy or needs a lot of patch work to be done, a new layer will be needed before polishing.
As it turned out, my High School could have had a glamorous polished, concrete floor, but they weren't able to achieve that. Perhaps its time to revisit the the school, see some old teachers, and recommend my contractor to them.
As for me, I am perfectly happy with how my floor turned out. Concrete Polishing was the best thing I've done for this house; and I've done a fair amount of DIY jobs myself. - 16492
