Why Seafood I Great When You Have Guests

By Sandy Mitchell

I only had about half my day to plan and prepare a dinner party for twelve people. I did not have even one idea yet and I was a little apprehensive.

This was a major deal for us. Not just a regular dinner party, this was a party that included my husband's business partners. This dinner would be a make it or break it deal and I needed to make this dinner work. I knew that not only was my husband's big deal on the line but the new house we had been looking at.

I already had mentally mapped out all of the rooms, and what I planned on using them for. I frantically searched the cookbook for ideas, and what I thought would make a classy presentation. Most of the things that I saw just struck of cheap and ordinary, and I was getting worried.

If I tried to serve something like roast or meatloaf to these guys, we'd all of a sudden be living a life of poverty on our own. Flipping a few more pages, it finally hit me. I needed to look at the seafood recipes. Seafood is always so swank, and would be the perfect thing to serve.

There was a local fish market not that far, and it had just about anything a girl could dream of. Since I couldn't just order 'take-out', and had to make something amazing, seafood would be the way to go on this one! I stared at pages and pages of great choices.

Elegant seafood is more than shellfish with so many choices of fish based seafood recipes. Most of the recipes use cod, Chilean sea bass, red snapper or haddock, but I was surprised that all things tripe were suggested as other good choices. When I created that meal, I felt like a famous television chef.

Of course, an obvious choice to make a good impression would have been a recipe using lobster. However, I noticed that there were some very interesting crab based dishes. I could still make something fabulous with the look and feel of fancy restaurant food that must have been catered. I'm thrilled that I selected a seafood recipe!

That night was a turning point. It was the very best dinner party we ever had. If not for the food, we could not have made the deal that boosted my husband's income to six figures. I give credit to those seafood recipes for saving our life and securing our future. - 16492
